This weeks course on our mission to review every golf course in Australia is:

The Woollahra Golf Club:

Right next door to Royal Sydney is the 9 hole Woollahra Golf Club, it may not challenge the top end golfer or rival its neighbouring course for quality but with lush fairways the manacured greens it represents amazing value for the average golfer.

Woollahra Golf Club

From the start of the Woollahara Golf Course you're made to think about your shots, the 1st is a short par 4 but with trees and OB down the left and trees down the right placement is king, if you've got the length and the accuracy the smash the ball over the trees leaving yourself a wedge into the green, if no maybe a layup down the right side of the fairway is the go.

In fact its a theme for much of this nine hole course, placement is king, go long on the second and you're in the trees, but its not just accuracy that is tested here, the 400 meter Par 4 3rd hole will really test your game, as if the length isn't enough the green is up on a hill at the end just to make it a little more difficult.

The greens are reasonalbly generous in size and there's no slippery slopes to worry to much about, but they are in fantastic condition, we played them not long after they were corded so I can't speak to the speed on a hot summers day, but you will get a true roll.

One of the things I really enjoyed was that there were no boring holes, every hole had some design to it and more than a little bit of challenge, even the last hole which is only a 100 meter par 3 had plenty of slopes on the green to keep you interested and a couple of bunkers guarding the sides.

Conclusion

When I was younger I never really liked 9 hole golf courses, I felt cheated out of half a round of golf, but as i've gotten older and a lot more time poor I realilse how awesome these courses are, they can be a lot of fun, you can go at the short par 4's , chase birdies on the par 3's and get it all done during a long lunch break, what more do you want.
