This weeks course on our mission to review every golf course in Australia is:
It's always a great day when you get to play one of Australia's finest golf courses, and its even better when the sun is shinning, this week we got to hit the fairways at the epic 13th Beach Golf Resort and the Beach Course.
There's a reason with this course is the home of the Victorian Open Championship, while its stunning to look at it also has a mean set of teeth on it, one of the first things you'll notice is the sheer number of bunkers there are
The greens can be lightning fast but not to the point where they seem unfair, if you can get a good stroke on your putts you'll be rewarded with a nice roll almost every time
The one thing you wont find at the 13th Beach Golf Course is a boring shot, every hole presents you with a unique challenge, like the par 4 5th (Pictured above), not a long par 4 but miss your tee shot like I did and your staring down a double bogey.
Being the wonderful links course it is, putting from off the greeen is often a good choice at 13th Beach, the rough around the greens is rarely long and at times is better than the actual greens on other courses
Finding the fairway is an absolute premium, just look at that tee shot above, a long par 5 that narrows all the way up to a green sitting up high in the distance, anything left, right or short is in a lot of trouble, and just to mess with the long hitters, there's bunkers on the right punishing misguided shots.
I said at the start, there's a reason this is the home of the Victorian Open, sure its a natural beauty to look at but its so much more than that, great thought has gone into every tee shot, with risk vs reward all over the place, patience is key here, you wont always get good breaks, good shots can be severly punished but if you hold in there you'll be rewarded with an amazing day out, and with the Creek Course next door, a weekend away with the mates is a pretty good option
